International Disaster Mitigation Day celebration at Rohingya camp in Ukhia

International Disaster Mitigation Day 2023 was celebrated with colorful arrangements at Rohingya Refugee Camp in Cox’s Bazar Ukhia.

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Myanmar Refugee Relief Operations (MRRO) celebrated the day on Thursday (12 October 2023). The program included photo exhibition, colorful rally, tree plantation, fire drill and discussion meeting.
United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR, CIC offices and RRRC office-Cox’s Bazar were in cooperation in this.

On this occasion, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) organized a photo exhibition at Kutupalong Maga Camp-5 Rohingya Camp.
Additional Commissioner of Refugee Relief and Repatriation Office Md. Shamsudouzja inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest.

At that time Camp-in-Charge and Senior Assistant Secretary of Camp-5 Rohingya Camp Mohammad Ahsan Habib, Director of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Mohammad Belal Hossain, Deputy Director Akram Ali Rana, Program Manager Md. Keramat Ali; Ms. Jing Song, Senior Program Coordinator of United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR, Ms. Esther, Senior Program Manager and Harichandan Risikesh, Head of Sub-Delegation of IFRC were present.

A colorful rally was taken out on the occasion of Rohingya International Disaster Mitigation Day at Camp-4 at 12 noon. At the end of the rally, hundreds of Rohingya men and women enjoyed the fire fighting exercise and gained knowledge. Later, Additional Commissioner of Refugee Relief and Repatriation Office Md. Shamshudouza was the chief guest in the discussion meeting held under the chairmanship of Camp-in-Charge and Senior Assistant Secretary Sujauddaula.

Director of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Mohammad Belal Hossain, Deputy Director Akram Ali Rana, Program Manager Md Keramat Ali, Senior Program Coordinator of UNHCR Mrs. Jingsong, President of Ukhia Press Club Syed Mohammad Anwar and Chandan Das of Fire Service and Civil Defense spoke.

Earlier the invited guests participated in the tree plantation programme.

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society camp officers Khairul Haque and Miraj Hossain were in charge of the event.

In the discussion meeting, the United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR-Bangladesh Red Crescent Society officials, representatives of various organizations, Rohingya camp Head Majhi, Imam, Moazzem, Sub Majhi volunteers and ordinary Rohingya men and women were present.
